Our Story
Established in 2007, The Lost Anchor is a seasonal restaurant in the heart of Cavendish, PEI — open from early June through the end of September each year.
The Legend of the Lost Anchor
Our name traces back to the Marco Polo, a legendary tall ship launched in 1851 at Saint John, NB. In 1883, during a devastating hurricane, the ship sank off the shores of Cavendish — right in front of the childhood home of PEI novelist Lucy Maud Montgomery. The wreck ignited her passion for storytelling. The ship remained lost at sea until 1960, when local fisherman Tommy Gallant discovered it — along with its lost anchor. That anchor is now proudly displayed in our dining room.
